FAQ
History
In 2006 Mauro Pastore, a Milan-based designer, and his partners at “cacao design” set up the publishing house Eulda Books with the aim of honouring outstanding design work.
2006: The first competition was called Eulda – European Logo Design Annual – and was mounted in 2006.
2008: In 2008 the competition was renamed Wolda – Worldwide Logo Design Annual. This competition ran until 2010 and was a great success, because logos from all over the world were entered for it. The results were published in annuals.
2010: At the end of 2010 Mauro Pastore ended his commitment to Wolda because of his own design projects that he was working on with his partners at the “cacao design“ agency in Milan. Since then there have been no more Wolda activities.
2017: Wolda was succesfull restarted with more than 500 entries from 39 countries. The jury meeting took place in New York, hosted by the agency Pentagram.
2018: Wolda had more than 300 entries from 48 countries. The jury meeting took place in Tokyo, hosted by the agency Kontrapunkt.
2019: The jury meeting took place in Montréal, hosted by the Ambassador of Brazil in Montréal.
2020: The jury meeting was held virtual. Jury members came from five continents: North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Oceania.
2021 to present: The competition is very successful. Participants come from all over the world. No doubt about it: WOLDA is a worldwide logo design competition.

What criteria does the jury use?
The jury members are experienced designers from all over the world. Many jury members have won awards at previous Wolda Awards. They share their entire expertise with the jury.
Christian Baun, Wolda jury member, writes the following about logo design:
A great logo consists of three core elements,
1) it must have a unique idea which is relevant and original
2) it must clearly communicate the identity of the company or organisation and
3) it must be designed/crafted perfectly.
When these three elements are combined as simple and flexible as possible you can create a great logo. It almost becomes an art form.

What trophies are there?
What awards are there?
The jury gives points for each submission. The work with the most points wins. The winners are always very close to each other. The certificates and trophies therefore differ only slightly. Everyone who receives an award can be very proud, because their work was selected from an international field of submissions. There are awards in Gold, Silver, Bronze and Awards of Excellence. It may be that a work is awarded the title “Best of Show”.
What do the certificates look like?
The certificates are in landscape format and have a size of approximately 42 cm by 29.7 cm (DIN A 3).
Pdfs of the certificate are available free of charge

What does a trophy cost?
Trophies are handed out for a fee. They cost 120 euros per trophy plus transport and packaging. Before the trophy is produced, we will send you an invoice. Then it is clear what the total costs will be.
Is it possible to order trophies from older competitions?
Yes, it is possible to order trophies from older Wolda-Awards. It is best to send the certificate as a Pdf. Then we can easily find the year and category.
